Get back on track with a 14 Day Detox in January
" Heal Your Broken Brain" class starts January 12th, 2012

Join me on a 6 week journey to Optimal Weight Loss, Health, Glow, Energy and to a Happy Brain.
While this program does includes an eating plan, it is not about just about food. It is about getting all of you back into balance which translates into being a calmer, happier, and more energetic person. The topics and eating plan included in this program have been medically proven to increase weight loss and improve your quality of life.
- There were so many firsts for me during this class. This was the first time I could function off of my anti depressants, the first time I've studied the effects of nutrition on my brain, the first time someone has listened to my particulars and had suggestions that actually worked. You are so fun and I enjoyed our class so much. Thank you for leading us.” Shannon
- I feel better than I have in years. I have lost the ugly belly fat….I feel happy-I can’t remember when I was just happy. My cholesterol drop 30 points. EH
- You provided me with a space to try different things that I would never have done on my own. And I didn't even realize how much I benefited from everything that I did and learned until some months down the road, after the class, when I began to feel sluggish and anxious again because I was no longer incorporating any of what I had learned. It works!! If was a gift to myself!

The cost of being overweight or obese
I wanted to share with you the staggering figures regarding the epidemic of overweight and obese Americans. According to an article that I recently saw in Life Extension's magazine, July 2011 issue, 65% of Americans are now overweight or obese and this excess weight costs our nation an estimated $93 billion in annual medical bills. And there is a distortion or a great denial going on as demonstrated by a recent survey, where about 30% of overweight individuals think they are normal size and 70% of Americans classified as obese felt that there were simply overweight. So that means that we are getting used to the thought that carrying around a few extra pounds is "normal".
Now you might ask, why am I making such a stink about this? Well, it's not really for cosmetic reasons. All of those extra pounds cost billions of dollars as they translate into diseases such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease, strokes, depression and the quality of life of those who are overweight is compromised and most people don't even realize how much. You see, when pounds are gradually put on, it's kind of like the frog who slowly boils, the discomfort is gradual so that a person doesn't even realize that they haven't felt really good in 10 years or that their energy and zest for life has diminished so much that all they really do anymore is go to work and then sit on the couch and watch the TV once they are back home. They have very little juice left to do anything else. The sad part, is that we have been conditioned that this tiredness, along with the new aches and pains are all a natural progression of aging and that's not true!!!
This is a bill of goods that the pharmaceutical companys along with our trusted doctors are selling us. And as I say, this, I don't believe that doctors are purposely trying to deceive us, they just have accepted it too, as a natural progression.
We have a lot of very 'old' 40 and 50 year olds running around and we are accepting it as the norm. And what I mean by 'old' is that even though a person might be chronologically a certain age, the "metabolic" age may be 10 years or more higher depending on the overall health of the person which is directly tied to the amount of excess weight a person is carrying.
So what can you do to reduce your size and regain your health? Actually, the best thing you can do is to think about what your ancestors ate and how they moved daily. It's really as simple as that when you break it all down. This simple idea may not seem that easy to incorporate into your lifestyle, so I would like to recommend a few ideas to get you started. Do this for 30 days and take note of any differences that you may feel.
- First, take all breads (includes pizza), gluten containing cakes and cookies and pastas out of your diet for 30 days.
- Increase your vegetable consumption to at least 8 servings a day
- Take out processed foods and make your own as much as you can. No high fructose corn syrup or hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated fats.
- Move your body at least 30 minutes 5 days a week. Anything that elevates your heart rate will do. Even if it is just a walk for some and even if you have to break that walk up into two 15 minute periods if you find physical activity difficult.
- Increase your water consumption to at least 6 8 ounce glasses per day.

Migraines

Migraines can be debilitating to the point of interfering with being able to work and enjoy life. They are often caused by hormonal imbalances, food allergies, low endorphin levels, magnesium levels and or low Vitamin D levels. If you suffer from migraines, relief may be easier and closer than you think. Below are some easy natural suggestions to get relief.
Progesterone cream: apply 1-2 pumps to temples at onset of headache for relief.
Have Estrogen and progesterone levels checked to see if there is estrogen dominance. This can be done either salivary, blood or urine.
(Salivary testing is available through A Living Balance)
Vitamin D3: relieves pain and has been shown to inhibit cancer. Take 5000 iu per day for 5 weeks and then back off to 2000 iu for maintenance. It’s always good to have your levels check 3-6 months once starting supplementation.
200 mg Magnesium- twice daily
DL Phenylalanine-reduces pain by blocking the enzyme that breaks down endorphins and enkephalins.
Saloxin-supports pain relief naturally without stomach irritation. White willow bark, and AKBA boswellia extracts are good sources.
Look for possible food allergies: Testing for IgG responses (you may obtain a test from A Living Balance)
Meditate 10 –20 minutes daily.
The above is not to be used as a diagnosis and it is always recommended to seek medical advice as well as testing to rule out any life threatening reasons for intense or prolonged headache pain, as well as before taking supplements.

Keep the Swine flu away by amping up your immune system
Let’s start with Vitamin D first. Most Americans are Vitamin D deficient because we cover up and slather on sunscreen to protect our skin or we stay inside way too much. Did you ever stop to think why people are usually more sick in the winter time? There’s not as much sun exposure and the immune system becomes suppressed. Not only has Vitamin D deficiency been linked with a suppressed immune system, it has also been linked to prostate, colon and breast cancers and depression from seasonal disorders. While Vitamin D is best gotten from the sun, if you tend to cover up and or stay indoors during the winter months or have dark skin, supplementation is the best alternative. Studies have shown that supplementation with 2000 IU for children and 5000 IU for adults will usually keep Vtiamin D levels up during the winter time. The USDA recommendation of 400 IU was basically established years ago as a level that would prevent rickets but not optimize the immune system.
Beta Glucan: What is it? Beta glucan is found in oats, barley, yeast, bacteria, fungi. Each type of beta glucan has a unique molecular structure, which makes only some types effective in enhancing the immune system. A 2004 study has shown beta glucan, from yeast, to be effective at lessening the severity of the swine flu and lessening lung lesions as well. Beta glucan has been scientifically proven to enhance your own innate immune system to help better stave off all infections. Studies have also shown it to be effective in shrinking tumors and increase cancer survival by engaging the body’s own natural defenses. It also helps the body recover from radiation and chemotherapy by increasing the body’s ability to create new white blood cells.
Not all yeast beta glucans are equal. Please make sure that the supplement brand that you purchase purifies and separates the beta glucan from the other components of the yeast cells. Some companies simply repackage baker’s yeast without refining it to expose the beta glucan which then makes the beta glucan difficult to absorb and therefore much less effective.
The supplement line that I carry, Xymogen, has a wonderful product of Beta Glucan, called ImmunotiX 3-6. The price to my patients and friends is 15% off the list price. A bottle of 20 is $23.00 and for 60 $70.55. Children can also take this supplement. Just break open a capsule and put half into a shake.
If you are interested in purchasing either the Beta Glucan or the Vitamin D from me please e-mail me at cindy@alivingbalance.net
I hope for a healthy “flu season” for all of you and your families.
Take care,
Cindy D
